Privacy policy

3 Ayat a Day ("we", "us") runs the website 3ayat.com and the 3ayat YouTube channel. This policy tells you which personal data we keep, why we keep it, and what you can ask us to do with it. We follow the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Data we keep
- Your email address. You give it to us when you subscribe or sign in. We use it to send your sign-in link, your daily reminder and messages about your subscription.
- Your subscription status. We keep the PayPal subscription ID and the date to which you have paid. We do not see or keep your card or bank details. PayPal handles all payments.
- Your practice diary. We keep the surah and ayat you practised, the date, and the settings you used (for example the number of repeats).
- Your reminder settings. We keep whether reminders are on, the hour you want them, and the surah you are on.
- Email links. Each daily email has a unique link, so that you can mark the ayat as memorised or stop the reminders.
Visit counts. To see how people use the site, we record the pages and sections you view, the buttons you press, the site that sent you, your browser language, time zone and screen size. We tie these to a random number that your browser forgets when you close the tab. We use no cookies for this and we do not store your IP address. We keep these records for 12 months.
You can use the free practice page without an account. Then we keep no personal data about you. Your browser can keep your last settings on your own device.
Why we keep it (legal basis)
- To give you the service that you pay for: sign-in, the practice tools, the diary and the reminders (contract).
- To keep records of payments (legal obligation).
- To keep the service secure and stop misuse (legitimate interests).
We do not sell your data. We do not use it for advertising. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
Who processes the data for us
Trusted service providers run the site, take payments, send emails and supply the Quran text and audio. Some can process data outside the UK, with the safeguards that UK law requires.
YouTube and Google
We use the YouTube API only to upload videos to our own 3ayat channel. We do not ask for access to your Google or YouTube account, and we do not get any data from it. When you watch our videos on YouTube, the Google privacy policy applies.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete your email, diary and reminder settings. We keep payment records for 6 years because the law tells us to.
Your rights
You can ask us to give you a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, or to stop using it. You can also ask for your data in a file that a computer can read. To do this, send an email to the address below. We reply in one month or less. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
The paid service is for people aged 18 or over. A parent or guardian can subscribe and let a child use the service.
Changes
If we change this policy, we put the new date at the top. If the change is large, we send an email to subscribers.
